PERSONAL ILLUSTRATION WORK

This is part of my thesis project titled “Bittersweet” which uses oxymorons as visual metaphors to explore immigrant identity, focusing on common mental health experiences found in 2nd generation individuals and their 1st generation parents.
The concept stems from the idea that like oxymorons (which hold two opposing words in one phrase), someone struggling with cultural dissonance feels as though they hold two or more opposing cultures within themselves. These oxymorons represent the ironic duality of identity found in being a citizen in one land and having roots elsewhere. The goal is to connect with individuals who resonate with these expiriences while also educating those who wish to learn.
