The Cricket War

I had the pleasure of illustrating the front cover and interior map design for a beautiful story called The Cricket War by Thọ Phạm and Sandra McTavish about a boy’s escape from Communist Vietnam by boat, based on the author’s own experience.

​

I wanted to contrast the turbulent waves at the bottom of the cover with a more peaceful scene of Tho on the beach at the top. I really felt like I needed to do justice to this beautiful story.
